Car insurance brokers
Why use a broker – what can they actually do for you?
People use brokers for the same reason they see doctors – because they want an expert opinion. Brokers can save you hundreds of dollars in hefty insurance premiums and take the legwork out of finding the right insurance policy for you.
A good broker will not only meet with you, discuss your needs and then identify the best policy for you, but will also handle all the paperwork associated with purchasing a policy.
If you are unsure or worried about getting the best deal on your insurance, brokers are an excellent alternative for hassle-free insurance purchasing.
Some questions you should ask when choosing a car insurance broker
Do they have an AFS Licence?
Make sure that you are using a broker that either holds an Australian Financial Services (AFS) licence or is an employee / authorised representative of a licence holder. This is your guarantee that you are dealing with an individual / business that is qualified to work in insurance.
Is the broker recommended?
Where possible, select a broker on the basis of others’ recommendations. If your friends / family / colleagues were happy with their broker’s service, chances are you will be too.
Are they a car insurance specialist?
Try and select a broker that is a specialist in car insurance. Some brokers will be a ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ which may mean that they won’t have the in-depth knowledge of insurers that a specialist will have, nor will have they contacts within the insurance companies that can give you a better deal.
Are their fees transparent?
Make you know the brokers’ fees before you enter into any discussions with them. Cheapest does not always mean the best but weigh up the cost of their services versus any savings or benefits you will get from using them.
